The suitcases are out of the closet, and there are piles of clothes all over the bedroom. Phase One of the packing process has begun.
Greg and I are heading to Italy for 5 weeks! This will be our 5th trip to Italy, and although we have other destinations on our mutual bucket list, we are drawn back to Italy for the food, wine, the scenery, and the people. We are going to be in a few locations where we haven't been plus we are returning to a few of our favorites. Here's our basic itinerary:
Bologna: 1 week
Panzano in Chianti: 4 nights
Panicale (Umbria): 9 nights
Florence: 10 nights
Venice: 4 nights
We'll have a rental car for Panzano and Panicale, but the rest of the time we will be using public transportation, and we plan to do a lot of day trips from Bologna and Florence. To the horror of my friends, we will each be traveling with one carry-on suitcase and a backpack. Of course, Greg's backpack will be nothing more than camera equipment, and mine will be full of iPads, our Chromebook, and various chargers. We'll stay in apartments at each location and they all have washers, so don't worry that we will be wearing the same unwashed clothing for 5 weeks; however, you will probably see similar clothing in any photos taken.
If you are curious about Panicale, there's a fun Netflix show called "I'll Have What Phil's Having" where Phil visits Panicale and meets with a chef and tours the little village. It inspired us to check out accommodations and make plans to stay there.
We're crossing our fingers for an easy travel day on Monday. I'll update the blog once we are settled in Bologna. Ciao til then.
