Gray Skies Are Gonna Clear Up; Put on a Happy Face

Today was a slower paced day than we've had recently. We decided to stay closer to home and do less driving and explore as much as we could before the rain came. Greg woke with a cold, so that was another reason to take it easy to day.

We headed to the southern coast of Brittany to the sleepy town of Doelan. It's a small town that is divided in two parts by a long inlet. There are two lighthouses there, and some charming (there's that word again) homes - and not much else. I'm sure during the summer it's a bit more active. Greg took several pictures, but the sky was gray and it was not a good day for photos.

We wandered the streets and then after seeing this sign at the trailhead...

Decided to risk it all and walk a bit on the coastal trail.

We haven't had a day when we could really go for a long hike; it seems we're busy exploring different areas. But this would be a wonderful part of France to see on foot.

Next stop was Pont-Aven. While Doelan is an undiscovered spot, Pont-Aven is very discovered with lots of artist galleries, upscale shops, restaurants, and tons of places that sell food in jars. There's a river that runs through the center of town, and the shops and homes line the river. Beautiful little town. We found a place for lunch overlooking the river, and as we were leaving, the rain started. We decided to scrap the afternoon plans and return to our temporary home to rest and get ready for another moving day tomorrow.

If you want to see pictures of our lunch and dinner from today, just look at the pictures from yesterday and the day before. We're in a food rut but loving it. Moules Frites for lunch and Crepes for dinner.

Tomorrow we go to Dinan with a few stops along the way.

A Little Later - A few Additions

For many years, there was a rule in our house that there could be no chocolate for breakfast. This was when I was refusing to buy Count Chocula cereal or the one that looks like chocolate chip cookies or any of the ones with marshmellows. Well, the ban is over. (If you're reading this, NW, I know you'll be thrilled.) This was Greg's breakfast today. Oh, and the cream filling was also chocolate.

And here are just a few shots I took at dinner and as we walked home. Quimper is really a beautiful city.
