Two Lighthouses, One Fort, and A Chateau, Oh My

It seems I may have picked up Greg's cold. So the morning here was a slow one. We decided to go out for coffee and one of Greg's newest passions - coffee eclair. He's decided these are much better than the chocolate ones, AND they don't break the "no chocolate for breakfast" rule. Our favorite time in Dinan is before 10:00 AM and after 5:00 PM when the tourists are not around. Along the way, Greg took a few photos of Dinan starting with one taken in St. Sauveur Basilica, our neighbor across the street.

And a clocktower that definitely has a tilt. We're worried.

Because we were concerned that we might not ever see another Kouign Amann, that wonderful buttery Breton cake, we bought a larger one hoping it might keep us supplied for a day or two.

Eclairs... Buttery cakes..... We need to get out of town. So we headed northwest to Cap Frehel which is about 40 minutes from Dinan and on the coast. It's a bit overrun with tourists, but still worth the trip. You can climb up one of the two lighthouses, but our legs are still recovering from yesterday so we just walked around the rocks and out to the point instead. It's a beautiful area, and unfortunately no pictures can really capture the coastal areas here.

Then just around the corner is Fort La Latte, obviously built by the man who created the creamy coffee drink. :) A fun place to explore and even though it was built in the 1400's, still in remarkable condition. Like Mont St. Michel, it is not a place for people with any mobility problems since to get to it from the parking area or to get back to the lot, you need to walk a long way up and down hills. And the place is full of steep steps. But we enjoyed it and recommend it. There is a fee of 5.50E per person.

Finally we made out way to Chateau de la Hunaudaye. This is the picture on one of the websites that made me think we should go.

But it was kind of disappointing once we got there.

Maybe we should have rented a helicopter and viewed it from the air? So rather than spend the fee to roam around, we chose to come back into town for a glass of wine. Good decision, huh?

As we drove around today, there were several times when we stopped so Greg could take a picture or two, often trespassing or climbing through fields to get the shot he wanted. Fortunately, he wasn't arrested or shot by a landowner.

Dinner tonight was at a little place called Le Saint Louis. One of the nice things about it is that you can book it online through a site called The Fork. It's like Open Table except it is for France. This eliminates the concern of calling and trying to make a reservation over the phone when you don't speak French. Anyway, the food was very good. They have a dessert buffet where you can try little bits of several things. And, of course, we did!

Tomorrow..... Normandy!
